Chesterfield 1917 Courthouse
Chesterfield County, VA
This historic two-story courthouse project includes renovation to repair the deflecting roof and update the facility to meet ADA requirements.

State Theatre Renovation
Culpeper, VA
1938 saw the construction of Pitts Theatre, a vaudeville movie house in Culpeper, Virginia named after the builder, State Senator Benjamin Pitts. Closed in 1993 upon sale to a local group, the 11,000 square-foot building was purchased by another individual in 2004 to save the theatre from demolition. It has since transferred to the State Theatre Foundation, Inc.

Academy of Fine Arts

The restoration of the 1905 historic theater, which burned and was rebuilt in 1911 in the Beaux Arts style, will return the theater to its crown jewel status as the resource for arts and entertainment in Central Virginia.

2011 USITT Merit Award for Architecture
HC Yu and Associates provided MEP/FP Engineering design services for the 109,000 square foot Forbes Performing Arts Center and 69,000 SF Music Recital Hall at James Madison University. With the Performing Arts Center, the University’s cultural life will focus on a primary space, combining two separate buildings

Originally, HC Yu and Associates provided full mechanical, electrical, plumbing / fire protection engineering services for this new center. The facility contains 100,000 square feet of interactive exhibition space, featuring a 12-story atrium for air and spacecraft display.

The expansion redefines the central library as the heart of George Mason’s campus and promotes the University’s aspirations for growth as a major research institution.

HCYU provided Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Alarm design for the new activity space/educational space building. Sprinklers were also performance specified by HCYU. The highly efficient HVAC system utilizes a dedicated ventilation system with energy recovery.
