Small Wind Testing and Training Facility
James Madison University
Harrisonburg, VA
HC Yu and Associates provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Design Services for the James Madison University Small Wind Testing and Training Facility. The facility features a 7.5 KW hybrid wind turbine / photovoltaic system, utilized for the training of personnel who will analyze, design, build, install and maintain wind energy infrastructure. Providing a platform for training on siting, safety, installation, and operations in a live and realistic outdoor environment, the facility serves as a test bed for studying and certifying new small wind technologies. The building components included inverters, AC and DC systems and complete system monitoring. The small wind training and testing facility will help increase the potential for growth of green jobs in Virginia while advancing implementation of wind power across the commonwealth. Support for the facility will be provided through the State Energy Program of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
